Growing up in Louisiana, we would see mayhaws and peaches between May and July… The best peaches were from Ruston, called Mitcham Farms Peaches.. The mayhaws are a tart berry that grow in the acidic soil that also produces pretty azaleas and camellias.. About 20 years ago I found mayhaws again and began making jelly…Really have enjoyed making it for years.. This year with the great peaches from Mitcham Farms and Mayhaws from Louisiana, I made Mayhaw Jelly and Peach Preserves… The State Fair of Texas liked them enough to give the Jelly a 2nd place ribbon and Preserves a 3rd place ribbon… The peaches and mayhaw berries are now frozen..I hope to make more jelly and jam around Christmas for presents… Have a great weekend…
